PREORDER DELAY CHECKLIST · BUYER-SIDE
When a preorder date moves, rewrite the promise—not just the estimate.
“Delayed” is incomplete. Separate release, dispatch, and delivery; preserve the old window; then get the replacement date, payment status, exit route, and next update in writing.
6 preorder-delay terms to get in writing
Replace a moving estimate with observable terms.
1. The original date or window
Record the original release, dispatch, or delivery date or range and where the seller showed it. This preserves the baseline without treating an old estimate as a guarantee.
2. The milestone that changed
Ask whether the new date means product release, stock arrival, dispatch, collection, or delivery to you. These events can be days or weeks apart.
3. The replacement date or range
Write the new date or range and say whether it is an estimate or a commitment. If it depends on a supplier or carrier event, name that dependency.
4. The payment status and timing
Confirm what has been charged, what remains due, and whether a deferred charge or authorization date changes. Shopify warns merchants to communicate an unexpected early collection; WooCommerce supports both upfront and release-time charging.
5. The cancellation or refund route
Record how and by when the buyer can cancel or request a refund after the delay, plus what happens to any deposit, fee, or partial payment. The seller must state its actual policy.
6. The next update
Name when and how the seller will report another change or confirm dispatch. A dated update promise is more useful than “we will let you know.”
Platform context: Shopify tells merchants extending fulfillment to inform preorder customers and documents deferred-payment and cancellation workflows. WooCommerce documents availability dates and upfront or release-time charging. See Shopify's preorder management guide and WooCommerce Pre-Orders documentation.
PRIVATE CHECK · NOTHING SENT
Turn the missing terms into one seller request.
The checker runs in your browser and creates no receipt. Mark only what is already written; it drafts a private-to-send message and opens a seller form with every commercial judgment field blank for the merchant to review.

Preserve the wording without overstating what it proves.
Is a new release date the same as a delivery date?
Not necessarily. Release, stock arrival, dispatch, and customer delivery are different milestones, so the seller should name the one the date describes.
What payment detail matters after a preorder delay?
Record what has already been charged, what remains due, and whether the delay changes any scheduled charge or authorization.
Should the seller provide another update date?
A stated next-update date gives both sides an observable point for checking the order again if the replacement window is still uncertain.
Does this page decide cancellation or refund rights?
No. It is a writing checklist, not legal advice. It creates no account, submission, payment, or receipt and does not determine anyone's rights.
